After parachuting from our critically damaged B 29 East of Tokyo on 1/27/45 I fell free from high altitude; opening my chute at low altitude over Chiba Prefecture east of Tokyo. Three Japanese fighters moved in and circled me. On third pass the pilot of last plane pulled in close- throttled back- and saluted me.

Due to much hard work by Historians I was able to confirm the event and later visit Hideichi Kaiho several times in recent years at his home in Tokyo area. After war he became well know aviation artist. He is bedridden today but we had very special visits. He painted and presented this photo to me during visit in 2002.
